Week in Review: Over-plaid? →
Read last week’s Week in Review piece over at The Fashionisto. With a slew of Fall 2009 (and Spring 2010) releases building on the tartan pattern, I look at whether the emerging menswear trend of patchwork has finally put plaid in its place (I certainly hope so).

Tisci Tantalizes
No haute couture collection at Paris last week did to me what Riccardo Tisci did. Sure, it was a small show of only 22 looks, but for someone who sides with wearable high fashion and often finds haute overly haughty, Givenchy totally reinvigorated me. Will anything ever again so beautifully disrupt my accepted notions of ‘fashion’? The one thing missing from Tisci’s...

What is this Who Am Eye? →
I really don’t like criticizing collections. They consume a wealth of financial resources, time, patience… and even if the style of a collection doesn’t sit well with me, I can always respect a designer’s aim. But here is one exception. All I’m offered are a few loose-fitting singlets and T-shirts, a short, a jacket, a shoe, a pair of jeans. It might seem like that...

Fashion Blogger Power List →
A few weeks ago we saw Holt Renfrew pay tribute to fashion bloggers worldwide by creating window displays inspired by BryanBoy, Tommy Ton and others. And just in case you weren’t aware of those making the biggest splashes online, The Daily Beast rounds up and profiles the top 6.

“Don’t knock masturbation - it’s sex with someone I love” says Woody Allen. As part of their Sex Issue, Robbie Cooper has produced a short film exclusively for Wallpaper*. It examines the place of voyeurism in society and provokes a number of interesting questions about the baseness of sex and, at large, our immersion in alternative ‘realities’.

Giuliano Fujiwara S/S10 Review →
Ash Stymest again featured prominently in this show, one of the first on the schedule at Milan last week. A thought-provoking mix of Japanese structures and Italian workmanship, read my review at The Fashionisto.

Safety Last →
The Upgrader has a feature on cutting edge designers for men who operate beyond the ‘classics with a twist’ mantra. It features labels Rick Owens, Julius, Juun. J, Blaak Homme and Odyn Vovk (all of whom are showing at Paris this week, save for the last who is showing at New York) as well as exclusive previews of their Spring 2010 looks. Excuse me while I enquire why Damir Doma...

Fixations are fleeting - except my one with Sonny Groo (@SONNYGROO). I came across footage of my style icon at the Jeremy Scott after-party last year and I just had to share. I couldn’t stop watching, over and over again… the hypnosis really kicked in when the vocals stopped, the beat dropped and Sonny exploded into action. Sigh…

Costume National S/S10 Review →
Read my latest piece over at The Fashionisto, a review of the to-date polarising Spring 2010 collection from Ennio Capasa’s fashion house Costume National. Whatever your opinion on the looks, Ash Stymest catwalking twice in the one show can only be a good thing.

Copenhangin' onto second spot...
Five days ago Monocle announced their annual index of the world’s top 25 most liveable cities. As Tyler Brûlè reiterated in an interview on CNN International (which I watched properly once I woke up out of the hypnosis that the mesmerizing timbre in his voice had spun), it’s about liveability - not about being the most conducive to business, or having the best access to high culture,...

Chance Encounter
Remember that Harper’s Bazaar editorial in 2007 with artworks commissioned to commemorate the release of The Simpsons movie? Well, the other day I stumbled upon a post at TrendLand which actually showed me the photos that inspired the spread (make sure to visit the link). From Alber Elbaz swapping necklaces with Lisa in the picture above to Marge looking rather ferosh linking arms with...

MAG-nificent
Thanks to Mag Nation (@mag_nation), a few weeks ago I came across their rather playful - but, in reality, actually rather accurate, too - “magdentifier”. Yes, the name is a little awkward… I don’t have any better suggestions, except maybe calling the service Magnet, with the slogan “Periodical Attraction”. Point is, this crystal ball asks you a series of 10...

Alexander McQueen S/S10 Teaser →
Sneak peak of Alexander McQueen’s men’s collection for S/S10 which, as you’d be aware, will defy convention by being shown online. No runway show will happen this year for McQueen in Milan, but the collection will be revealed there on Monday in a short film directed by David Sims. See McQueen’s runway archive here.

Voutier
Thanks to CheckYouDaily (@checkyoudaily) I came across Voutier, the online home of creative director (graphic designer, consultant, stylist) Jamie Richards. While still in its preliminary stages, the site is elegantly designed and should be a constant source of inspiration in the future. Of interest is a watercolour and ink artwork of Zac Malone and Genevieve Jones; and since, like me, it went...

12.06.09 - 19.06.09 Read my opinion piece on the week in men’s fashion. From Lina Österman to Beijing-born Chi Zhang, this week saw androgyny continue to determine the focus of collections. That is until London College of Fashion graduate Asger Juel Larsen turned back the clock… Read it here.

Review: "Farm" ★★★★
“I’ve got nothing left to be / do you have some plans for me?” starts the chorus to Farm’s highlight - and possibly the highlight of 2009 come year’s end - Plans. Dinosaur Jr might not have planned in 1984, the year they were formed, to have enjoyed the storied career they have (they disbanded in 1997 before reuniting in 2005 and releasing Beyond two years later) but...

Look of the Day
Look of the Day comes from 21 year old Friederich. I’m not usually a fan of anything that isn’t, y’know, BLACK, but I thought all the elements in this image just combined so well. I remember trying on a pair of Conference of Birds floral pleated ¾ length shorts earlier this year and, as much as I wished they suited me, alas they didn’t. Friederich to me actually pulls it...

The excitement surrounding Melbourne’s The Temper Trap and their soon-to-be released LP Conditions is electric. Having played to sold-out crowds everywhere over the past 12 months on the back of their highly successful Sweet Disposition EP while trying to live up to their billing as one of the best things to come out of Australia musically in recent years (they made the BBC’s top 15...
