Tisci Tantalizes

No haute couture collection at Paris last week did to me what Riccardo Tisci did. Sure, it was a small show of only 22 looks, but for someone who sides with wearable high fashion and often finds haute overly haughty, Givenchy totally reinvigorated me.

Will anything ever again so beautifully disrupt my accepted notions of ‘fashion’?

The one thing missing from Tisci’s creations? Cloned models. Try as he might, they just don’t look enough alike. Perhaps we can re-stage Givenchy’s A/W09 Haute Couture collection in the year 2053. Then I just might die from over-stimulation.

Look of the Day comes from Charles Guislain (shot by Monochrome Mag). He’s rivalling Sonny Groo when it comes to who I claim as my style icon, but isn’t quite there yet. Looking beyond his fashion forward-ness - he is a Margiela protégé after all, and at 16! - I think the lighting of this portrait is just gorgeous.

I really don’t like criticizing collections. They consume a wealth of financial resources, time, patience… and even if the style of a collection doesn’t sit well with me, I can always respect a designer’s aim. But here is one exception. All I’m offered are a few loose-fitting singlets and T-shirts, a short, a jacket, a shoe, a pair of jeans. It might seem like that simple, understated collection whose garments are exactly what you’ve been looking for. It’s not.

Facing Page: Top Left by Manic Street Preachers, off their new album Journal for Plague Lovers (featuring songs all penned by the vanished former member Richey Edwards). Fixations are fleeting - except my one with Sonny Groo (@SONNYGROO). I came across footage of my style icon at the Jeremy Scott after-party last year and I just had to share. I couldn’t stop watching, over and over again… the hypnosis really kicked in when the vocals stopped, the beat dropped and Sonny exploded into action. Sigh…

With piano bounce and repetition a feature, Bloc Party’s (@thisisblocparty) latest offering - One More Chance - is definitely a touch house inspired. Though not a killer track just yet, it begs the question: will Bloc Party’s 4th album (the last of their record deal if I’m not mistaken and the one Kele will have the biggest influence over) be their best yet?
